Nope. I guarantee they won't. Daley would smash a candidate like that even if he were eating puppies for breakfast every day on television.

Default NEW YORKER piece on Richie Daley

Has anyone read "The Daley Show" in the March 8 edition? I can't do links (think it's a Mac issue) but the article,by Evan Osnos, who writes their China blog, can be found at newyorker.com. Would enjoy hearing your feedback.

The article isnt accessible online, you need to buy the print edition. Anyway, I thought it was a fair assessment. Nothing that hasnt been said countless times before, and certainly nothing that Chicagoans dont already know, but still an interesting read.

This year things will change. I will vote for anyone that runs against Daley and the rest of us should do the same. It's the only way to get rid of the evil dictator and the rest of his spoiled brats. Chicago is the only large city that does not have a limit on terms in office, requires city workers to live in the city,

Do we even vote here in chicago for mayor? Whens the next mayor elections???
As long as Daley's people count the votes, it won't be a problem.

Anyone that votes for Daley because they think the corruption is needed or because they think he is the lesser of two evils has not been paying attention. The biggest problem is the corruption. If we vote him out now even if the next guy sucks, the second Mayor after he/she will be better than Daley.

You mean like the second mayor after the last Daley, Jane Byrne? Daley is the only person out there that can take the intense heat that comes with the office and at the same time keep the citys motor running.

Come february, if Daley runs he'll win. No other prominent or capable people in this town wants that job because of the immense scrutiny that they and their family/friends will be under. Not to mention trying to keep this wildly diverse city from Balkanizing again, like it did in the eighties.

The lakefront liberals are and have always been more bark than bite in this town. Without a credible black candidate in the race, Daley takes most of the black vote, sweeps the Latino vote as usual and picks up more than enough of the traditional loyal white dems who always vote for him.

In the end, it adds up to victory. He'll retire in 2015 and then keep your eyes on Anita Avarez, she's moving up. Just my opinion.
