Hello all,

we have two kids, aged 2 and 4.
The pre-school or kindergarten we are considering is on West Montrose Avenue, close to where W Montrose meets N Clark Street.
Is this a save area to send one´s kids to school in?
Thank you very much in advance,

Lilli

Hi all,

our plans for Chicago seem to get more concrete, so I´m starting to look for a place to live which should preferably be in close proximity to the school.

Can anyone tell me what kind of area W. Montrose/ corner N. Clark street is? On a scale where 1 is quite bad an 10 is perfect, where would the area be?
And is this a good place to live?
We are coming from a very good neighborhood with a lot of green.

Thank you very much in advance,

Lil

It´s still interesting for us, so any answer is appreciated.

can anyone tell me to which neighborhood w. montrose ave/ corner n. clarke street belongs?
when i´m searching via zillow it´s easy to find places nearby but when i have to fill in a neighborhood in an onlineform in order to get results, i never know what the area is called.
thanks in advace.

Actually, it looks like Uptown on the north side of Montrose and Lakeview on the south side.

Pretty much on the border of Uptown and Ravenswood (Lincoln Square community area).

Montrose and Clark is not a bad area. The area just to the southwest (Graceland West) of that intersection is beautiful and Dover (just to the east of Clark) is a very nice street. I've lived near Montrose and Clark for eight years and it is fine. The school you mention, Stockton, didn't have the best performance but they have done a lot of improvements to the building and it is merging with another school so it will be interesting to see if the school does better with these changes.

The immediate area east of Clark and Montrose is Sheridan Park. If you have any questions you can send me a private message.

Stockton was not a good school, and it was technically part of the massive school closure that just happened this past year. Howevever, the Stockton building will remain open as a school, and will be combined with the nearby Courtenay Elementary, and will be renamed Courtenay. I have friends who had their kids at Courtenay in past years, a much smaller school with good test scores, who will now be attending school in the much larger Stockton building with a bunch of troubled kids from Uptown. Many Courtenay parents are really pissed off about this, and feel like CPS pulled a fast one on them at the last minute. Courtenay was never on the closure list because technically it will be relocated to Stockton, but in reality it will not be the same school that it was.
