My white 62 year old mother runs errands over there. But this north sider is too scared to buy from a guy on Craigslist. My mother must be living life on the edge, huh?

Oh lol, never mind then. I read it as if he was buying or renting a place to live in Steger via Craigslist.

If he's just going to Steger to buy something, that's a different story!
I always advise meeting in a public place for purchases via craigslist, but after re-reading it sounds like he has that covered.

thank you guys.

@urza216, you probably interpret too much. It can be the google street view image that gives the impression. And one can't tell how busy a location is from a few images.

I don't really get how the google street view of that corner gives the impression of a place that's run down. There's a Walgreen's and car place that don't look particularly scary or run down.

When I think of a run down corner on a busy thoroughfare, I think of abandoned lots, not Walgreen's.

I asked you what exactly it was that you interpreted in the Google Stret view image as being "quite run down" - so much so that you wee frightened to go there. You didn't answer.

Oh well. You're welcome and good luck.

yeah i wouldn't worry about that area. if it makes you feel better, tell the dude to meet you in front of Jewel instead of at his house. i live in steger and go all over that area on the regular and i've never had any issues. i love it out here.

btw i moved up here from a squeaky clean small town in central florida, if that helps put things in perspective for ya

Yes,as Urza said, as long as your not waving the Black & Gold banadana you should be fine. Dont go east though, you'll end up in the poverty stricken slumhole of Ford Heights

Thanks
Steger is safe, just all the towns around it are unsafe.
