And I believe that I have more in common with individuals up to the north of the country. Colder places of living. Doesn't matter if they're midwest, northeast. We, even women, know what its like to have to shovel snow, freeze our buts off, etc. I believe, and it may be just me, we're different than our tropic counterparts. Again it could be just my perspective. I like to visit Florida, but not to live.
I'm like you in the subject of I just don't like the extreme heat either, though I deal with the dry heat out in las Vegas. Trust me, over 100 degrees, hot is just hot, like a constant hair dryer in your face. Though I do know heat with humidity. Whew!

That's strange, cause I've had 3 friends I've known from growing up/school and wherever who all independantly moved from Tampa to Chicago in the past year. I keep asking them what the hell's going on in Tampa that they're all randomly moving here in the same year. They all just said "I hated it so bad, you don't even know". To which I was like.....yes.....that's why I'm asking.

Who knows.

Default Chicago, reply deegers and Chicago60614

Chicago60614,
That is strange. But at least I'm not the only one. And that was funny, boy did I laugh. It makes you wonder what the hell going on down in Tampa.

deegers,
Wow Vegas, you win. That has to be worse than Fl. However, I'm liking the weather a tad bit right now. We has some cool weather. Cold to Floridians, but cool to me. It feels great. It won't last though.

I've known several people who moved to Florida because they thought it would be warm and beautiful and the economy seemed good, but from what I've seen and heard from them the economy is not that good. They had problems finding and keeping jobs, and the ones they got paid far less money than they were used to. The sunshine is nice to be sure, but being homeless isn't.

Default Count me in the FL to Chi #'s

Funny, I'm in Orlando and I'm moving to Chicago in about a year. I'm ready for a city thats more of an actual city, ready to ditch my car and ready for more than one season. The only good thing about living down here is the cost of living -- if you're a professional of some sorts. For the working stiffs, the majority of the jobs are in the tourism industry, which pays horribly.

I'm originally from Ohio, currently living in Tampa, and ready to make the move to Chicago. I have been in Florida for 1+ years and leaving for Chicago in spring of 2008. I thought about moving back to Ohio(Cleveland)but Chicago has more of what I'm looking for. Tampa has great winter weather and beaches, but does not have a city feel. Also, I spend too much time in my car trying to get somewhere. I can't wait to turn my vehicle back in to the dealership and go without a car.

I don't think the cost of living is that much better really. Its gotten pretty expensive from what my mother has said. The price of food, WHEW...that has gotten crazy. The pay isn't that great your right, but I seen worse.
I am right behind you I am hoping to go as soon as possible. Count me in.

well....just to show there is always another side to the coin....I moved from chicago to florida...and back. I'm thinking about returning to Florida. I also wanted to get back to the city. I never lived in Tampa....I lived in Naples.

The two places are just so different, there is hardly a comparison. That is why you miss the other place when you are not there, not to mention all the other things that are invovled (such as where your family and friends are, your history, etc). But Chicago and Florida are just really different......you realize no matter which you choose, you are giving up what the other place offers.

I actually was in Chicago for 6 years and then had to move to Tampa for a year to complete a 1 year residency for my PhD. Tampa and Chicago are just so wildly different (not like that surprises me) and I'm moving back to Chicago at the end of my residency. I don't like the hot humidity of Tampa in the summer (I can handle the cold better than extreme heat!) and I don't like that there just isn't a whole heck of a lot to do here. But I'll be back in Chicago in about 10 months :-)
