yeah, I really tried not to go there with the charts and factoids, but I was challenged and I can't help but take that to heart when weather is the subject. Anyway, the whole point is -- Chicago is colder than New York, that is clear -- no matter what part of Chicago you are in.
Chicago may be colder in other ways too but I would not know about that. |

I can't believe people are arguing about winter. It gets cold here, okay? Why argue minutiae. I don't get it.

seriously. get a coat. and some mittens. a hat. a scarf. really. !! if nothing else, threads like this one make me want to drift over to the nyc boards where they discuss more important subjects such as which project is more dangerous, which unsafe area is safer, etc...

I agree.
If people seriously have to ask if they will "survive" Chicago's winters, then they probably dont belong here. |

yup yup, ny is what it is. I love the cold too.. i will be planning a trip out there to visit first. That would be the logical thing to do.. so far i have heard alot more pros than cons about chicago. That is what i like to hear.. i know in NY, the bad outweighed the good. It is happening here too.. so ill be flying in to Ohare soon enough to check everything out. From what i have read, i think im going to check out rogers park, logan square, and whatever other diverse and halfway safe neighborhoods i can find that are affordable. Crime is not too much of an issue as long as there aint people getting killed and robbed on my block on a daily basis. I have defineteley seen my share of that stuff in brooklyn. Hopefully things will work out and i could be the newest chicagoan. ![]() Last edited by mdz; 11-01-2007 at 07:49 AM. Reason: language--try not to say **** here, ok? |

that's the longest discussion on weather I've ever read. I am looking forward to the cold and snow. you can only disrobe so far. It's much to hot here for my liking. I's funny the other morning it was about 68 degrees here and I was getting funny looks for wearing a tank top. a woman said " how could you be wearing that? It's cold."
I replied, " I'm warm. " it wasn't cold. sure it was 68 degrees but the humidity was high. we did get some cool weather later that week and it felt great. I loved it. felt like I could breathe. ![]() OnThaGrind So you live here too. its terrible. you right about the expense in NY it is overpriced with not much of an income. but I believe that Chicago would be a better choice. If I could, I'd leave now. I certainly wouldn't raise kids here if i had any. there is something about people who are from colder areas. its hard to put my finger on it, but people seem to have a different way about them. To those who put up the pics, those were some nice shots. and see so Illinois does have some areas for outdoor recreation. its funny because we've all been talking about pizza I received in the mail a flyer for windy city pizza a place that just opened up here in tampa that has, Chicago pan, Windy city thin, The Cubs deeps dish and the White Sox, the Bears etc written above their pizza items. I wonder if it tastes the same as places there. probably not since the Fl pizza place that claim to have NY style pizza it doesn't taste that way to me. Amy_Cat I'm from Flatbush area. Ave D and East 45th street. I've been to willamsburg lots of time. I was working on a film in that area at the time. Near the bridge. the movie was Marshall law at the time the name was changed when released to the Siege. So you happy there, that's great makes me look forward to it even more. |

I did forget to ask if having an SUV will cause as much problems as having a truck. Is having an SUV better than having a truck?
![]() also hows the traffic worse than NY, or better? |

Traffic is better than NYC at least on surface streets. I'm not sure if our highways are any better or worse.
SUVs are licensed as passenger vehicles rather than trucks, so they can be parked on the street like any other vehicle, subject to the same (numerous) restrictions as all other passenger vehicles, of course. The only difference is that many (maybe even most) SUVs are charged an additional $15 per year for the city sticker, for a total of $90. It's a real sloppy formula they use: any current model year with a GVR of over 4,500lbs makes EVERY YEAR of that model subject to the surcharge, even if your SUV is 15 years old and weighs 700 pounds less than its current model year. |

Oh, thanks that helps. I have no idea what my it weighs, but I don't mind the 15 extra dollors. I'm just happy I can have it. With the snow and all its nice to have a 4 wheel drive. I was planning to most use the CTA for going to work. My SUV would only be used on weekends and if I want to travel out of state or within IL for the weekend. I love to explore and I've noticed that the CTA and Metra have limited service on the weekends. |

Yea unfortunatly i live here too, but i know i will be in a better place eventually. This place is just a stepping stone.. well... more like a road block, but hope is all i can have right now. I lived in tampa too for a year, that place is the WORST. i lived in suitcase city, 15th st and 131st ave.. if u know tampa, you know bad that neighborhood is. and im from the flatbush area too, well, more or less midwood. E13th st and crown heights before the gentrification started a few years ago. anyway, chicago is sounding better by the day |
