I live in AP a little south of where you're looking (closer to Sunnyside and Central Park). I know this might be a little late, but keep to main roads or roads you know late at night if possible. One person was shot on Troy north of Lawrence that wasn't a gang member, but it sounded like someone thought he was when they opened fire. That was tragic.

That being said, that generally doesn't happen and out of 52,000 people, the odds of something bad happening to you in the neighborhood are pretty slim. I walk home from the bar or brown line at 2 a.m. or so on a fairly regular basis and have never really had a problem. Most of the time I'm with my wife and I've never been confused for someone I'm not which is the real issue when it happens. I think that combined with the fact that it's two people walking together have kept us pretty safe.

There are a lot of families here and a few gangs that give the whole neighborhood a bad reputation.
