I've read many postings regarding RP...although, my fiance and I can't pass up a great place to live...we are moving into a place on farwell and wolcott near ridge...we visited the place during the day=beautiful and in the evening=women jogging and carrying groceries with both hands (not at the same time)...so we thought it was as stable as RP can be...We really didn't have a chance to speak with neighbors or the residents who lived in that unit prior...I have a few friends that love the area and some that think otherwise...Could someone tell me a little more about this specific part of RP?

I think you just have to scout the block and make sure there aren't any problem buildings nearby. There really aren't very many "bad sections" of Rogers Park, but there are problem buildings that can really wreak havoc on a small area. Try hanging out there at night, during the day, and on the weekend to get a feel for what's going on. Also, scout out your commute, since that's probably when you're the most vulnerable.

We just sold my Mom's house on the corner of Farwell and Wolcott. It is a family oriented neighborhood. My Mom was 84 when she died and the only reason she stayed in the house was because her neighbors were so good to her. They cut the grass and shoveled her snow etc. They would pick up groceries for her.
I can also tell you in the 1900 block of Morse, 3-4 homes are owned by kids that we grew up with that bought their parents homes to stay in the neighborhood.
What is the address you are looking at?

I forgot to add that the neighbors do a lot of block activities, cook outs, rummage sales, block parties and meetings and they also have a great 4th of July parade. The parade started over 40 years ago when I was a kid and they still do it. This past 4th they had over 100 people participate.

They found a guy shot dead about a block and a half away a couple days ago. Not a particularly common occurrence even in RP, so what that says about that particular chunk of it, I don't know. But I do wonder with all the people pouring out of CTA housing if things aren't going to get worse again for a while in RP before they resume getting better.

Did you mean "CHA" housing? Although, homeless people living on the trains and busses will also have to find new places to live if the "Doomsday Plan" goes into effect...

I used to live in RP and I can tell you that it is really 2 different places. The area east of Clark and west of Sheridan Rd is a complete crap hole. It is crime and drugs all over the place- especially the areas around Howard and Morse. The lakefront east of Sheridan is pretty good and the areas west of Clark are good.
