It will look like the city wasted a lot of money on things this cities residents don't need, at the expense of many things this city's residents do need.

2016?
I'll be taking a rickshaw to work and paying 20% taxes on food.

Except that the city to beat right now is Rio. Talk about problems with funding and logistics...

VERY VERY TRUE. Too bad the city can't invest some of the millions its wasting on the Olympics into its crumbling roads or CTA. Gosh what a thought!

Well, I truly believe that trying to secure the Olympics is part of a bid to get more state and federal funding to address these issues as well. "OK Springfield and Washington... we're not just showcasing the city of Chicago, but also the State of Illinois and the United States as a whole... so how 'bout you help pony up some dough to help make the best impression possible? Can't let the world ride to all those events on a rickety, broken down track structure at 6mph, now can we?"

I thought that over the summer, especially regarding the CTA. But with the upcoming service cuts, and yet another doomsday situation, I really don't care to see any tax money used on anything that won't directly benefit Chicagoans.
And we should all know that if Chicago ends up landing the bid, we will see hundreds of millions of tax dollars go towards building Olympic facilities by the time all is said and done. And then hundreds of millions of dollars will go into maintaining and converting those facilities into something somewhat useful but not all that important afterwards.

That is exactly where my thoughts lie on the Olympics. Chicago needs this. This would single handedly rebuild and restore the CTA and through beautification and construction of additional facilities, should fill the voids that separate Chicago from looking like "The City of the Future" its anointed as. I'm excited for the bidding process.

pretty sure rio will get this... with marathon stuff, and cta, and terrorist threats ... and other problems... don't think chicago has much of a chance honestly.
