There is no part of Evanston that compares in any way to Englewood or Austin or West Garfield Park. The "no" area around the high school mostly has to do with the perception of crimes caused by youths of a certain minority group. I actually think that area is pretty safe and there are some beautiful houses as well as some run-down ones.

Juneway Jungle is pretty awful but it does not extend into Evanston; it's a matter of judgment how close by you want to live. Six blocks from a bad area is the traditional caution zone.

Larry - thank you!!! I really love Evanston, and I myself drove around to see for myself rather than only listen to opinions. I have a few places in mind and they all seem great!!! this weekend probably when the snow lets up, im there again

going to try that bakery by Davis and Maple and would like the bbq house down the road there.

How is it on Custer just north of Howard crime wise and noise level? It's Evanston but it looks rough.

I always beleived that South Blvd was the borderllne between the good and the bad part of Evanston, so going north of South Blvd is supposed to be ok.
