I like Bridgeport, but it's not where I would go if I were in the market for a half-a-million-dollar home. This really reeks of an attempt to bring suburban-style blandness as close to the center of the city as possible.

Most of these houses aren't half million dollar homes. They're mainly quarter million dollar homes. If you go to my link a few posts back you can see how much each in bridgeport new construction, at least since mid april costs. There's a bunch in the quarter mil range, but not half mil.

However, Lincoln Park, Roscoe Village, and Lakeview have a bunch in the half million or more range being built.

The ones in question start at 379,000 for one development and 462,000 for another. (Yeah, I rounded up, but I assumed they went up from there since that's the "starting at" price.)

Bridgeport has always been more of a SFH area. I wouldn't call these homes out of place or particularly suburban.

If you are looking to spend ~$500k on a new single family home near downtown, where would be a better area to look?

Did you see the video? Everything about them is suburban. These are not the typical SFH of Bridgeport.

Again, go to my link...these may be older ones, but there's a bunch in the $225k-$250k range.

I didn't watch the video, but looked the website. These look like typical frame city homes to me. Not that out of place in Bridgeport.

I could not agree more! Bridgeport is sort of the "last bastion" of quirky Chicago homes. Evidence of places that were built before the streets were raised will be gone. The blandness of concrete block fortresses have spread like a contagion over too many northside areas.

Folks that are "attracted" to areas like Roscoe Village or Bucktown are probably willing to accept the horrible aesthetics of monotonous streetscapes to get their shiny kitchens and spa baths within stumbling distance of gastro pubs and El lines. I fear that if those dolts descend upon Bridgeport the fate of humble end of the block places like Shinnicks will either lie with the boarded up windows of Uncle Johnny's or some hideous investor driven place like Buffalo Wild Wings on Halsted...
