Hello Chicagoans - I will be arriving in your city via Amtrak (Capitol Limited Line) and have a short period of time to make a connection to the Metra BNSF line to Naperville. Any tips for navigating the station and where the ticketing and boarding area for Metra trains is in relation to the Amtrak trains? Also, is there a way to purchase and print Metra tickets from home in advance to save time at the station? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Union Station isn't that big, you'll be able to figure it out.

If you don't want to buy tickets at the station, you can buy them from the conductor on the train for a few bucks more.

Hang a left when you leave the track area and the Metra tracks will be ahead of you. There is a board by Track 2 (at the end) that has a schedule of upcoming trains with departure times. The one way fare to downtown Naperville is $5.75, the one way fare to Rt 59 is $6.25. Just be sure you have some cash when you board.

The extra charge is $3.00 if you board the train without a ticket and an ticket agent was at the station at the time. Also if you miss the train unless it was the last one out or you hit that 2 hour mid day break, there should be another train in about an hour or less. BNSF is prety frequent for a Metra.

Schedule for BNSF -- Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Schedule

Metra ticket area (windows with clerks and automated vending devices) are just past the baggage claim area for Amtrak -- Chicago Union Station :: Concourse Map

Union station is rather compact and pretty efficient. It is fully ADA compliant but some of the elevators are not located in a logical place. If you are handicapped it makes sense to ask for an attendant to guide you to the right elevator. If you are abode bodied you can navigate the whole station very easily.
