I'm looking at a place on Hamlin & Eastwood Ave.

What's Albany Park like? People seem to generally dislike it.

I like it but I'm working class and I like the regular folks vibe there.

I don't really care if it has a nightlife or anything like that either. I'll be starting school in August anyway.

I'll mostly just be working and schooling.

Does anybody know what the crime rate is like? I heard the neighborhood is a gang turf.

God, I miss that everyblock website.

I like Albany Park, and I'm a white collar worker. The thing I like about it is that it has so many cultures together and they have some GREAT food in the area. Being part mid eastern-ish, I like being able to get an entire thing of Labneh for like $2 (Labneh is basically Lebanese/Palestinian/Turkish/etc Greek Yogurt). I like the small markets, I like the cheap ethnic food that is really great. I like being around other types of people. That's just my two cents on it. I would definitely live in the area. The only reason I'm not is because living 'downtown' puts me closer to work and gives me a much easier commute.

It's a cool, diverse area with limited gang activity. Maybe a 35-40 minute train to the loop, but not very far in terms of actual distance. A friend of mine found a 2-bed garden unit for $1000 a few minutes from Kimball. Not a bad deal.

Limited gang activity? I guess compared to Englewood, sure.

West of Kedzie, it's a pretty dirty neighborhood. The most desirable part is closer east in the "Ravenswood Manor" neighborhood. I'll agree that the food choices are excellent if you prefer middle-eastern or Mexican. Otherwise, it's cheap due to the fact that it's not really gentrified and a little rougher.

I like Albany Park. I have more time there recently. I haven't been all over the area but haven't noticed anything that would worry me.

I don't dislike Albany Park; I dislike the gang situation there. Otherwise it's a pretty fascinating neighborhood.

I just moved to Albany Park last month. I'm on Kedzie in between Wilson and Sunnyside, so technically I am in East Albany Park.. Walking across the street (and a block or two?) puts me in Ravenswood Manor I guess. As far as I can tell, my new neighborhood is working class and very family oriented. There are a lot of good restaurants and everyone I have come in contact with has been very friendly and welcomed me to the neighborhood. I also love being so close to the Brown Line, which is a) the nicest train line in the city; and b) gets me to other fantastic neighborhoods like Lincoln Square and Ravenswood in five minutes or less. I commute downtown every morning and it is a very comfortable 35 minute ride. No, there is no nightlife in Albany Park, so as long as you don't care about that then you're good to go. I'd rather get take-out from Semiramis and grab a bottle of wine from Foremost across the street anyway. Hope you enjoy your new neighborhood!

Oh, and as far as gang activity...hmmm, I came from Logan Square which so far I feel is a much sketchier area than where I am now. I've only been here for a month and haven't noticed much of anything. But I'm sure I will soon enough. I'm south of Lawrence, so I feel like I'm in a very safe spot.
