Come to think of it, has Harrier ever been outside of the US? Hong Kong? London? Paris?
How can Harrier even assess "world class" when he's been to so few "world class" cities?
How can Harrier make any assessment of Chicago when he admittedly has never experienced it? Does referring to oneself in third person bestow some special insight?

Wow. So instead of explaining how Chicago is a world class city - you deflect and talk about Harrier.

That is very interesting.

All Harrier asked for in an explanation as to why Chicago is a world class city. You had a golden opportunity to educate Harrier and the world, but you blew it by becoming defensive and evasive.

Why?

Because this isn't a classroom. Despite the fact the evidence for Chicago being global being widely available, you insist on claiming that it's not and asking this forum to prove you wrong despite the fact you've offered up no actual evidence to disprove the existing evidence. The burden of proof is on your shoulders, not mine.

If you asked me why I thought the earth was round, it certainly wouldn't be up to me to do so - it'd be up to you to demonstrate that it's not. Educating people on well-documented facts is not what I do. Children need to be educated - adults are expected to discover the starting point of understanding on their own.

And quit referring to yourself in the third person, it's creepy.

You can arguably add Boston to that list and potentially Houston as well.

Those cities along with Chicago & the other ones you mentioned are probably the big ones.

Putting Las Vegas & Miami in a group with these cities is blasphemous. We aren't talking about nightlife here.

Most definitely -- Boston has finance, tech, among other things and Houston is the energy capital of the world.

We've had this discussion many times on the City vs City board, and it always ends up like this ( after countless pages of argument)

The 5 Most Important US Cities/Metros:

NYC
LA
DC
Chicago
SF/Bay

Your order may differ slightly, but it always comes down to these 5...

Let's see.

* Food - Pretty much universally recognized as one of the top 2 or 3 food cities in the US, and one of the top 25 in the world (and sometimes top 10).

* Museums - Museums like Museum of Science and Industry, Art Institute, Field Museum, etc are ranked amongst the best in the US/World.

* Economy - Number 3 in the US with GDP and one of the top 10 GDPs in the world. Very diversified and 2nd or 3rd largest financial sector in the US. Busiest stock exchange outside of NYC is in Chicago and the largest options market is also in Chicago.

* Architecture - the skyscraper was invented here and Chicago has one of the best skylines in the world, but also great low level architecture throughout the city.

* Music - Many well known and influential musicians to come out of Chicago with strong Jazz and Blues. House Music was also invented in Chicago and Chicago is a big city for electronica/EDM.

Exactly. There's plenty of arguments to support why these 5 would be the 5 cities/metros if we're picking 5 World class cities in the U.S.

I question your ability to assess what constitutes a world class city, when you've seen next to nothing of the world, including the city that is being discussed. That is not being defensive, that is asking a reasonable question.

I wouldn't be surprised at all with the comps, I've heard places have cut back greatly on them. I've never found any of the major casinos to be dirty inside besides the bathrooms and that is more because of the volume of people going in and out of them. The city itself is quite dirty though, too much sand and too many automobiles.

I think Macau has surpassed Vegas in regards to revenue. Believe it or not, the Chicago area casinos rank 3rd in the country behind Vegas and AC. They bring in just over a third of the revenue that Vegas does.

Totally agree with you. Vegas has some decent food here and there, some decent entertainment and casinos, and that's about it (and a decent university) on the large scale. it's not a world class city by any stretch of the imagination.

Yep, I'd believe it. Her father was talking about how much better Macau is than Vegas. Very surprising about Chicago area though and gambling.
