Hi, I am 28 year old single male. I have a 75 LB Black lab that is 1 years old. He is the sweetest dog ever! Anyway... Everywhere I seem to search says either no dogs or 1 dog up to 45 lbs :/

1. I am from the suburbs and have visited the city often but still dont know exactly where would fit best for me.

2. I do NEED my car as I work for union construction company that requires me to drive anywhere from Gurnee, to Naperville, to Joliet... All depending on what job im working on at the time.

3. I have 1 maybe 2 friends that also want to move to city and I do think I would prefer to have a roommate or 2.

4. I think I want to stay near northside.. Wrigley, Lincoln Park, or close enough...

5. I know this is asking a lot but a place with a nearby park or a place with a small yard where I can take my dog to go potty. Rather than being surrounded by all pavement

Any help is much appreciated! I cant wait to get to the city!!

Places that are "professionally managed " often have such restrictions. Try to track a smaller landlord and odds are much better that they'll be ok with a well behaved lab.

I have a 70 pound lab and have found that a few landlords are willing to ignore their own weight limit rules because of the breed's good reputation. It never hurts to ask.

That said, having a dog still drastically limits your options.

Oh, also, most of the side streets in the residential neighborhoods have large strips of grass between the street and sidewalk, so I wouldn't worry too much about the pavement issue.

Domu.com, padmapper.com, Trulia, etc.

As others have said, the larger management companies you will have a harder time doing this. There is actually one apartment in River West, just west of River North that accepts dogs up to 70 pounds. More expensive building (not terrible) and I don't know what your budget is: http://www.apartments.com/Illinois/Chicago/TRIO/709303

Go with the smaller landlords though for sure.

Honestly the value of simply going for a little walk cannot be overstated. Many folks with desirable places to rent know that putting a little sign in the window is a good way to screen out nut cases calling from five states away with no job / nothing but time to waste. If you have a pal in the area that can write down some phone numbers / email addresses it is far more likely that you will get a better value than going through five levels of middlemen / aggragators...
