A 15-year-old boy is in desperate need of a heart transplant but doctors say he doesn’t qualify for the transplant list.

Tommy Jones is receiving treatment at local hospital.

Doctors have told his family that tommy has less than nine months to live, but he can’t be put on the transplant list because of a history of non-compliance.

“They said they don’t have any evidence that he would take his medicine or that he would go to his follow-ups,” said Melencia Hamilton, Tommy's mother.

Tommys mother told news that the transplant is the only fix for her son’s enlarged heart.

Keepers of the nation’s transplant list have strict guidelines about who qualifies, and while doctors didn’t specify the reason, family friends told local news station they’ve been told it’s partly because Anthony has had low grades and trouble with the law.

“The non-compliance is fabricating, because they don’t want to give him a heart,” family friend Mack Major told Thomas. “This is unacceptable because he must lose his life because of a non-compliance.”

“They've given him a death sentence,” said Charlie Young Smith,

Hospital spokeswoman Sue Lee said in a statement, “The well-being of our patients is always our first priority. We are continuing to work with this family and looking at all options regarding this patient's health care. We follow very specific criteria in determining eligibility for a transplant of any kind.”

“I know it's wrong, because if they get to know him, they would love him,” Hamilton said.

Anthony has been at the hospital since July 25. Family members told Thomas he could be sent home soon and kept on his medication.

Is this fair?

Sounds fake.

"Tommy Jones is receiving treatment at local hospital.

Two names?

I feel bad for him and for anyone who needs a heart. There are only so many hearts to go around.

But the fact is that somebody is going to die because there are not enough hearts for them. If he gets the heart, somebody else lower on the waiting list will die. If somebody else gets the heart, then he will die. In another city, there is another article with a picture of a different patient who is going to die.

Someone has to choose.

If you really care, take care of your body, including your heart and SIGN YOUR DONOR CARD. Fewer decisions about who will have to live and who will have to die will need to be made if you do that.

Yep. The "At a local hospital" line is weird, too. Usually it would say what hospital. There's nothing in this story to even indicate that it's in Chicago.

I, too, would like to see the source.

This is the article in the OP as of this time. Notice the lower case "tommy" in the third paragraph, it used to be "Anthony." Anthony is also in the next to last paragraph. And who is "Hamilton" in the 3rd from last paragraph?

Family says Dekalb Teen being denied heart transplant|Action News - Jacksonville News, Weather & Sports - ActionNewsJax.com

The actually story appears to be from Atlanta, about a boy in the Atlanta area. (The OP, for some reason, changed the name and picture.) It has nothing to do with Chicago and shouldn't be here.

The sheer force of the explosion, in addition to sending him from Australia to Atlanta, apparently also changed his name and skin color.
