I was originally told that Hyde Park was unsafe & to live in South Shore, but then a few days ago I was told the opposite, so it's getting very confusing- there are just so many neighborhoods in Chicago & I want to make sure I'm somewhere safe. When I was searching, I did re-stumble upon an apartment I found in the very beginning but it's ~16 miles from the hospital (however I'm told it's in a safe location). Its on N Sheffield in the Wrigleyville, Lakeview neighborhood & according to google maps it's I can get to the hospital in about 25-30minutes. But I'm wondering how accurate that really is? I mean with morning rush-hour will it really be that quick? Also is it as safe as I'm being told? I was told that more people my age/things to do are in that area & it's a good safe place to live. Thanks so much for all your advice guys & please keep it coming!! I'm still looking, but if this one in Lakeview is really in a good place it's definitely in my top pics- it's already furnished & completely in my price range.
From Wrigleyville, 30 minutes sound optimistic. If you're going to commute around the same time as everyone else, I would add 10 minutes to compensate for traffic and that's assuming typical circumstances. If there's an accident, Lake Shore is practically at a standstill. LSD isn't that bad during the morning rush hour but the afternoon is another story. Commuting back up to Lincoln Park after work, I often end up just driving THROUGH the Loop because LSD and the Dan Ryan are so clogged up.

Wrigleyville is where Wrigley Field is. A lot of drunks and disappointed Cubs fans, not dangerous aside from the occasional mugging, bar fight, or rape attempt. But I would say most of Hyde Park is safer, if safety is a major concern. There is more going on during the weekends around Wrigley though.

Ok but is like Hyde Park as a whole safe, or is it just the area near the university? & if that's the case, like how close exactly (like within miles) do you have to be to the university to be in the 'safe zone'?

Hyde Park is fine. Maybe you shouldn't be moving to a big city.

If you go any number of miles (plural) away from the university you're no longer in Hyde Park. Google maps is your friend.

More importantly, where are the the apartments located in hyde park. you will get better answers if you provide that. hyde park is the safest neighborhood closest to your hospital you're rotating at. if you need to walk around at night, you could always call uchicago police to escort you, dont think you have to be a student there?

what school rotates at jackson park hospital? Caribbean school im assuming?
