I'm planning two trips:

1. Chicago to Cleveland

2. Chicago to Milwaukee

Both are two day one night trip...

I'm thinking about Amtrak and Greyhound bus...

Can someone give me some suggestion regarding transportation and maybe places worth visiting?

Thanks!

Wrong forum. Try Cleveland's and Milwaukee's forums.

Going to Milwaukee is very cheap on the Megabus if you book in advance. Doesn't take much longer than Amtrak.

The Amtrak train ride to Cleveland is slow and hardly scenic. I'd imagine flights there aren't too expensive and would save you time.

If you're going to stick with ground travel, I second Megabus for either of these two destinations. If you book far enough in advance, you can get a really cheap fare, too.

...... I should have read the comments earlier. I booked the Amtrak already.

But the night train back to Chicago will be at 2:45am. I wonder if staying in the Amtrak station in mid-night is safe? Or should I wait at the hotel lounge till 2am and take a cab to the station?

I've never been at Union Station that late, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty vacant and ominous around that time. I'd lose my mind trying to kill time in there for more than a couple of hours. A hotel lounge sounds more comfortable at the very least.

Yea I guess I'd go for that idea. I just recheck my ticket, it's 3:45am...
