Hello,
As I continue on my quest to rid myself of personal mortgage insurance I had a question related to the appraisal process. I know I could use Angie's List, Zillow, or countless other online resources, but I think that the responses on this site are far more reliable and thoughtful than what you will see on most other sites. Anyways, I have a two bedroom condo (built in 2008), 1100 sq. feet, in Edgewater that I am looking to get appraised. I was hoping you folks could suggest a trustworthy search engine etc to find an appraiser near me. And also what you would guess the cost would be. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can just go out and hire an appraiser yourself. I believe the mortgage company (either your current one or whoever you would like to refinance with) will appoint one to do the appraisal. As for cost, my son paid $300 in June/July for a new mortgage.

That sounds correct . The institution will arrange the appraisal and retain the appraiser , and usually that's your cost . 300.00 seems to be this years rate .

I suggest you to contact appraisal company near your location or search for it online, they will do the needfull. As far as cost is concerned, 300 seems to be a fair rate.
