I Left Chicago's Englewood Area In 1995 Looking For Better Opportunities Such As Jobs And Housing I Did Not Want My Kids To Be Subject To The Gangs And Violence, I Currently Reside In Indiana And It Has Been Hard I Was Going To Move Back To Minnesota But The Hcv Program Isn't Open So Now My Who Took Over My Grandma's Is Offering Me To Move There And Let Her Help Me I Have 4 Boys From 2 Thru 14 And I Want To Know Is The Area Really Changing Or If She Is Trying To Profit Off My Rent Because No One Else Will Buy Or Rent. It Would Be An Honor For Me To Keep The House In The Family But Is It Worth It?

I think you are right to have reservations about this. We are always attached to our homes, but you have your kids to think about. I am not an expert on Englewood, but I dont think it has changed enough....you can do better.

To say Englewood has gotten better is like saying "I used to have $40,000 in credit card debt; now I only have $25,000 in credit card debt." The situation is certainly better, but it still mightily sucks. And so it goes for the Englewood of 1995 -- which is probably as bad as any neighborhood has ever been in the history of the United States -- versus the Englewood of today. It's little consolation to note that the barrel is a little nicer if you're still scraping the bottom of it. If you have a choice not to raise kids there, don't.
