Just so I'm clear. What you're saying is that if you're poor, you turn to crime?

Aren't there free clinics? Free public education?

The problem is the 'culture'. Until that changes, the door will keep revolving and things will continue to be bad in the bad areas.

Well said Jonny.
As I've said many, many times, Until the culture of these communities change, where's NOT OK to have multiple children from multiple men by the time you're 20. Where it's NOT OK to drop out of high school. Where it's NOT OK to live on welfare because you don't want to work....then you'll have kids doing exactly what they saw their parent doing growing up and the cycle will continue.

It sure is. When it was popular, it referred to a young professional who was self absorbed, out of touch, status-driven, shallow, materialistic, conspicuously consumptive, etc. Perhaps it doesn't have as negative connotations for people who grew up after the '80s.

They arrested two people. Gang related of course.

I guess there was also some discussion by politicians of actually sending in the National Guard.

Of course it is gang related. Could have told you that the second the news broke. Sending in the National Guard or more state troopers or anything else won't stop the violence. You can have a cop on every street corner and it wouldn't stop gang activity. It may lead to few more arrests, but then the next in line in the gang will step up to perform that arrested-person's duties. Kind of like Al-Qaeda. You chop off one limb by killing one of the leaders, but the network is so broad, others will step in to fill that person's shoes. There are over 70,000 gang members in the city of Chicago. That's about 2.5% of all Chicago citizens that are in an organized gang.

Until the thug culture that doesn't value education, respect, authority, and human life still exists, the gang violence will persist. It all starts with parenting and the family structure. When the parents are gang-banging, drug dealing, or in prison themselves, the children don't feel the affection or family closeness at home, so they turn to gangs at the age of 12.. then it's too late to save them. Unfortunately in that culture, parenting is more of a burden than a privilege.

Then do it like Batman, arrest the whole gang.

If you put in the National Guard where it was literally flooded with troops it would physically prevent people from killing each other to a large degree. Maybe after a year, etc., the culture could be moved.
