Still haven't seen any test runs. One strange thing I noticed are randomly placed solar panels along the tracks.

I saw a few articles written within the last day or two stating that it's on track and is set to open back up on Sunday. For example:
CTA Red Line Reconstruction Project On South Branch Nearly Finished, Set To Re-Open Sunday

AFAIK, there are no metro-style systems with trains going that speed. I believe that CTA trains are certified to go as fast as 70mph, but usually never exceed 55mph. With stations spaced only 1/2 mile to 1 mile apart, the wear and tear of topping out at 70mph as opposed to 55mph, given the distance needed for acceleration/deceleration at safe, comfortable rates, is not really worth the small amount of time saved.

Maybe for switches or communications equipment .... but that's just a guess.

So... I take it that all is well here? I haven't seen any angry raging posts about it yet.

I for one am sad about the red line trains no longer running on Green line tracks. It was awfully convenient to go to my green line station and also be able to catch a Red line train.

I wanted to congratulate Chicago and praise you for your terrific work on the Red Line South Branch. With the combination of the new track bed and the 5000 series rail cars, it felt like I was gliding on air with absolutely ZERO slow zones. I'm only 30 and never thought I'd live to see the day! Too bad I will only be able to experience it when I visit home (Chicago). Now if we can get that extension beyond 95th

To the New Red Line!!
