Hello,

We are looking to buy a gorgeous 2 bed / 2 bath condo in a relatively new construction (2005) in the 1300 block of N cleveland ave in old town. I see some low income housing on that block (Evergreen towers), but otherwise, the entire street looks beautiful with old town social pub just down the road. Can anyone tell us how gentrified, safe is that area now with the cabrini green projects torn down?

I don't know about that particular street but my friend has lived in Old Town about a decade. I asked him if that section with the public housing west of Wells is bad and he said yes it was. Shooting are not infrequent over there.

A quick look at the stats show the 1300 block of Sedgewick to be the worst street in the area by far though Cleveland and Larabee also have some trouble.

You know Chicago, though, it changes block to block, street to street, so I would talk to the neighbors.

I use to live just north of North Ave. on Cleveland, so I walked the 1300 block every day to and from work. It is a decent area, but there definitely is some trouble. I never felt unsafe but there are many low income housing apartments on the east side of the street. The worst area is right behind the Dominicks.
