Good article on the state of the CTA, post-doomsday.

oh boy you better believe I am digging this thread back up.

Clout Street - local political coverage | Chicago Tribune | Blog

The Chicago City Council Wednesday approved a 40 percent real estate transfer tax increase to aid public transit---but the CTA only gets the money if active military personnel and disabled veterans get to ride their buses and trains for free.

I hope everyone realizes that in a couple of years all of this nonsense is just going to put us back in the same ol' predicament.

Sometimes I just don't even know. I hope I don't ever become just a regular disabled person that isn't yet 65, because then i'd only be able to have the plain reduced fare.. not ride free.

no! wait! i've got it!

we can just dismantle the CTA, and everyone can just WALK EVERYWHERE.

- it's independent, like having a car, you can go where you want when you want! no pesky waiting for a train or a bus!

- and then EVERYONE can "ride" for free, without the government spending our tax money on something we "don't use"!

IT'S PERFECT.

right, when they remove those toes due to frostbite, you're bound to lose some weight. I'm fairly certain my big toe weighs at least 10 grams.

Maybe I am one to talk, but the Mayor needs to start walking everywhere with at least 50% of the City Council.
