Downtown is booooooring. The setup is drab and empty, bartenders aren't exciting, the people who go there are normally business people in town or maybe older residents. Many people there I feel like are staying in hotels nearby and it's just close - cause the scene is pretty "empty" there. I hope they know there's more out there for the "chicago scene" than that place. I've been a few times and totally unknowing people asked me if theres anywhere else to go in the city. What!?

I like Second Story much more when I'm downtown, it's a complete 1960's hole in the wall dive bar, but it's always packed and has a very unusual atmosphere. You have to be prepared for it though, it's a place where most people just want to get hammered and be a bit crazy. I don't think it even has a sign, it's right at Michigan Ave and Ohio (or Ontario?) near the Gap. Just through a doorway and up on the second floor of the building.

^ Yeah, it is, though last time my friends invited me there were over 10 people dancing which kept it fun. All I'm saying is that it's a place in that area with an older crowd. Not saying anything about fun, just about meeting people.

Second Story is fun, at least from the times I've been there (which has been at least 40 times). Though as a straight guy, I've had my crotch grabbed by random guys a few times which is pretty awkward LOL. In the end, I had it coming to me. I'm a straight guy in a gay bar and they don't know i'm not gay other than that I'm not hitting on any guys. Otherwise, pretty fun/funny place that I do agree, is more fun than Downtown for sure and different. It's on Ohio above Sayat Nova.

You aren't just a straight guy in a gay bar, you're a regular in a gay bar.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "you go to gay bars cuz ur gay". I'm just wondering how many bars you can say you've been to 40 times and still a) function and b) save cash.

I think I only have 1-2 bars in the entire city I've been to 40 times, mainly due to the good old mid-20s.

Well, that's 40 times over about 5 years, which is about once every 1.5 months. I guess I don't consider that to be a "regular" but sure, it's not a once in a blue moon thing. 40 is probably too high, more like 25-30, but still. I'll basically go every now and again with a few of my gay friends when we're out to dinner and they want to go. The place is hilarious and I'm comfortable with myself, so I don't care. I'm all about having a good time.

I will say though that there are places I've been to 40+ times in a year easily and I think a lot of people who go out a decent amount in this city probably have. There are two restaurants near me (which you can get alcohol at too) that I was at 5 days/week in the summer of 2010. I cut back my going out, and still go out a decent amount, but 40 times over 5 years isn't a **** load IMO, but it's not sparse. The 5 days/week thing I just mentioned is a lot though. Can't believe I did that!
