Actually, most of us knew this already, but it's nice to see the national media finally catching on:

Gun violence and murder are on the decline in Chicago | MSNBC

Nice puff piece from Rahm's friends at MSNBC.

Try reading from more schooled in the intricacies beyond the headlines. Here is a great Reader piece that pokes holes in the budget nonese that Rahm gets away with. Regarding the police here are some choice quotes:

Quote:
At the same time, new police hires are barely keeping pace with retirements and attrition. Currently about 10,700 police officers are on the force—about 200 fewer than when Emanuel took office, according to payroll records posted online. That's also 1,100 fewer than in 2007.
If facts are taken into account, Rahm's budget claims don't all add up | Bleader | Chicago Reader

God forbid a media outlet somewhere puts out an article to reign in the vast gulf between the perception and reality of Chicago's crime rate.

The article you posted has nothing to do with the first, per usual.

Exactly. The reader article is completely off topic.

Which is exactly what Chet does in over 50% of his posts. They're often diatribes about nothing to do with anything anybody else is talking about. The sad part is that he thinks people actually read it usually.

Anyway, the article is good and it's good other news agencies, nationally, are picking up on the fact that things are down, and also raw numbers don't mean as much as the rate.

That is a 180 degree turn from the subject of this thread. Are you once again angry that there might be something positive happening in Chicago? That seems to be a recurring theme with you.

Proof positive that corrupt journalism and news reporting are as bad a stigma as corrupt politicians. Don't expect any mea culpas from the Trib, the Scum Times or any of the news operations in this town. Rather than fighting for the reputation of our city, they are all too eager to selfishly promote hysterical and misleading perceptions because it gets them rating points and web hits.

never miss a chance to redirect the topic to fit your narrative.

can you explain to me how citing statistics makes an article a "puff piece"?

Yep. It's actually the complete opposite of a "puff piece" in that it's discussing the actual data for once, which is what the media should have been doing all along but haven't been.

That's an extremely conservative estimate.
