I think that both are popular. But really I see people going more for thin crust. Less calories, delicious and does not take as long to cook. I mostly order thin crust but every once and a while I'll go for deep dish.

I grew up on the SW side of Chicago in the shadow of Midway. When I think of Chicago pizza, I don't think of deep dish. We grew up eating thin crust cut into squares. I like Lou's deep dish once in a while and pick up a slice of stuffed here and there but I feel that this whole "deep dish". Chicagoans do like it and eat it but it's not representative of all of Chicago.

I was shocked! Given how much deep dish is talked about and all the places that serve it I thought it was the only pizza Chicagoans ate.

Is this true? Do Chicago really like and eat deep dish pizza? If it is true why dont they like it?
I remember that episode as well. I will rarely get deep dish while I am out, as it is more of a comfort food, and a big meal. But will get it 80% of the time when I get carry out.

Only time I eat deep dish is when I have out-of-town friends visiting or when we have lunch bought for us at work.

LOVE deep dish and Lou Malnati's pizza. Since moving out of Illinois, I even have it shipped!

When I see people eat thin crust pizza and hot dogs with ketchup while claiming to be 'experiencing' Chicago, I just shake my head. Beggars Pizza and Ginos East are my favorite; Uno's taste more like a chain pizzeria now that it has become so mainstream.

I used to often get thin crust pizza at the Beggar's at 127th and Western. Are you telling me the 60 odd years I lived in Chicago eating thin crust pizza I wasn't "experiencing" it, whatever the Hell that's supposed to mean? Or was I experiencing Chicago when I ate deep dish downtown at Uno's or La Piazza but not experiencing it when I ate thin crust from Sorrento's in my old neighborhood on the West Side or from Phil's at 35th and Aberdeen? What?

I never heard of Sorrento, is it still open?

I like thin crust too. Home Run Inn use to serve a good thin crust.
