I can't imagine that going over well anywhere. Seriously, that statement was an insult to everyone involved (except for perhaps children). It certainly got a laugh here where I work among most of the people in my office (who are minorities ... incidentally and somewhat ironically, I'm the only one in the bunch without a car )

Unfortunately, everyone believes in stereotypes, including black people ( noooo!). Some believe that most, if not all, white people are rich and a day without public transportation and time off from work will not hurt their pocketbooks.

Take out "Chicagoland" from Illinois and this state is a poor man's Iowa.
We need some tollways that are not in Northeast Illinois. Our toll money already goes to pay for the downstate road projects. Funny isnt it?

Midstate's roads are in awful shape, especially I-55 and I-57, but I-74 isn't so great either. Michigan apparently got funding, because I-69 is being rebuilt, and I-96 is smooth. Midstate Michigan roads are in better shape than midstate Illinois' crap pavement.
But, whining about 'them' is easier than figuring out what's going on with Blagojevich and company.

Many people that have years of exp. riding the CTA know that many of its frontline workers are lazy, arrogant, overpaid, rude, unqualified, and unhelpful. I hate to paint most of the CTA workers with that wide brush, but from what I have seen in my 25+ years using the system it is very true on the whole. It has gotten much worse. Years ago the workers were far better than the clowns they have now.

I rode the CTA for years when I lived there and I rarely saw employees like you describe. All of them were very courteous and nice and answered any questions I had or referred me to somebody who could.

I take I-57 about once a month down to Champaign and recently down to Charleston and as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with it. I don't see anything wrong with I-74 either from Mahomet all the way to the Indiana state line.

What? The Downstaters can levy their own taxes on themselves to pay for their own roads. We offered to levy a Chicago area tax to pay for Chicago Area transportation and THE DOWNSTATERS WILL NOT LET US DO IT.
They want Chicago and Chicago area casinos to pay for their projects and ours. How does that make sense?
What is going on with you?
I hate Blago as much as the others, but this is a classic everyone against the Chicago area fight.

I guess my experiences are somewhere in between. The CTA bus drivers are generally fine, the people who sit in those little booths generally act like they'd rather chew thumbtacks than answer a question or offer assistance.
I've found the PACE bus drivers to be unusually surly.
