I work near that tower. I've always liked its appearance, with or without the name 'Trump' on it. I've never seen the icon 'Trump' as a reference to the man, but rather to the tower itself. I am not offended by it, nor do I see it as gaudy or distasteful. I think it is appropriate to the building, and adds a bit of sophistication to it. When tourists go by it on the architectural tour, they can see the tower as a successful, renowned enterprise.

I would rather see someone's name on a building they own than somone's name across their behind when they have on their sweat pants, shorts or yoga pants.

For being such a narcissistic moron he has made a lot of money and is more well known than a lot of other humans.
So he likes to flaunt his wealth, so do many others and nothing is said about them.

Poor Chicago. First it was Picasso, now it is TRUMP.
I'd agree with your Vegas comparison but Picasso - the greatest influential artist of the 20th century. That is a Chicago landmark and the story behind it being here is also worth reading.

you might like it if it was the most cutest guy's name or something.. or maybe some other celebrity everyone loves.
I bet you felt pretty clever when you typed this up.

Default Move over

You can also give NASDAQ, CBOT, Merchandise Mart, and Fannie May Candies a seat at the table.

The comment is meant to be tongue-in-cheek. To fully understand why, read Mike Royko's take on it. Mike Royko, One More Time: The Best of Mike Royko, excerpt

That was 1967 and I don't know what those leaders expected.....did they think Picasso was going to sculpt something
classical like Rodin? Pretty naive on their part if they didn't know what type of sculptures and paintings he was doing.

... mouth breathing rubes...

The whole point of an architectural tour is to appreciate the design of the structure. When the designer of the structure decries this kind of signage that should tell you quite a lot...

Different strokes for different folks, even if it's the architect's. I think one can still appreciate the building and not mind the sign.

True. I envisioned it being at the top of the tower marring the skyline. I have an irrational loathing for logos all over a skyline. Once I saw the actual sign placement, I was pretty OK with it.
