The only time that's ever really merited is if we get a big storm, 8 inches or more. Then you should be rewarded for digging out your car with that spot for a few days. But when we get these little 4/5 inch storms and people throw their lawn chairs on the street, that's just obnoxious.

I find it hillarious personally. For the people that put their ironing boards out in the street, one day I just want to show up at their door with some pants in one hand and an iron and extension cord in the other, ring their door bell and ask them if I can plug in my iron and use their board outside because I have some laundry to do.

It does look tacky though to see everyone's random junk out in the street. The worst I ever saw was someone using their old Halloween pumpkins... That was just plain nasty, they were all moldy and $#!-.

This only works west of Ashland. The Lakefront is just too dense to be calling "dibs" on a parking spot. This needs to end.

I like how the city was basically just like "Ok people....it snowed on SUNDAY. Time to move your crap..."

What they should be doing is saying "don't put your crap out on the street at all or streets & san will carry it off." Especially in the last couple of snows we've had, there's been no excuse for this crap. The snow wasn't so thick that you couldn't just pull in and out of a side-street parking spot even if you didn't shovel. But to still have it out when just about all of it has melted off the street?

I really hate it when people do this. Makes me want to park there just so I can throw their crap up onto their lawn.

When my dad was younger he drove around and threw everyone's "parking spot savers" into the back of his truck. I wish I had the nerve to do something like that.

I was waiting for this topic to come up again...There's Cubs and Sox People, and Dibs and No Dibs People.

Totally agree there's no business doing dibs now. But after a 8-12 inch snow, when you've busted your butt slicing through the ice wall formed by the snowplows, and you come home and somebody in their BMW took your spot and your dead great grandfather's favorite lawn chair is on the lawn, well, all bets are off.

That is the real usage of this practice.
