I always roll my eyes when these reports talk about CC and gun violence in Chicago.

Hello - CC has NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING to do with a vast majority of gun violence in Chicago and it won't have any impact in the future.

Most of the people shooting and getting shot are gangbangers who are going after each other in their neighborhoods, mostly young men, teenagers. I doublt most of them care one second about CC. Outsiders view the law as a means for regular citizens to protect themselves against some sort of threat like a robbery. The shootings in Chicago are mostly guys who already have guns shooting other guys who many times have a gun themselves. These shootings in Chicago are between people who already assume that the person they're shooting at is armed.

At the very least they aren't thinking anything of it and are just going after "rivals".

And FYI - shootings in Chicago are UP this year from past years. The number of people dying from their wounds is down (the number of murders), but CC has NOOOOOTHING to do with a vast majority of gang violence.

Correction: shootings are up from 2013, which was a very low year in terms of both shootings and homicides, but shootings to date this year are lower than other recent years. What's interesting to me is that homicide is down, shootings are up but the relative share of shootings were the victim took a bullet in the head or torso is almost exactly the same. I kind of figured the reason for homicide to drop while shootings are up is that people are just missing (whether due to statistical luck or cops being proactive in limiting contact between groups who are inclined to kill one another). Here's another theory: hospitals are just better at trauma whether in the ER, OR, ICU, or in transit.
