Or maybe it had to do with decking an elderly man in the face.

Yea chicago is pretty gay friendly as a whole, but from my experiance the Southside is not exactly a gay friendly part of the city, except for Hyde Park and some of the southwest areas by Midawy.

Couldn't agree more

As a gay man who lives and works in the city, and has tons of friends that are gay professionals, I have to totally agree with Drover.
Jesse, I'm not sure what your problem is, but it is not being perceived as homosexual. I have some friends that have some very high up positions in their companies (CPG and banking), and even though they are the only "out employees" there, they are treated fairly. I have more then a few friends that work for the city of Chicago in high-ranking positions that are openly gay and are treated as equals.
In addition, the company that I used to work for had a LGBT group for the Chicago office, and it had over 180 members in it.
The problem, is not with Chicago being homophobic, it must have something to do with your work performance. I just wanted to speak up on behalf of the thousands of LGBT employees that are able to maintain long-term work positions without being discriminated against.

Jesse, can you turn this thread into another one of these: http://www.city-data.com/forum/relat...ike-marry.html ?
I really need a good laugh today.

My work performance has absolutely nothing to do with my being laid off unless I'm better than my boss or a white man... I was WAY better than my German Engineer Boss in managing the Technical Writing Dept and documentation improvements at Synchro Start. - So this ******* Boss has to frame me in front of the Company during it's Xmas party that I'm stupid and a hooker [they spread false photoshopped pics]. Even my reputation somewhat hurts today when some people mistakenly spread wrong gossip that I'm a hooker [never been one].
I do excellent work better than a white man, but the white man has to keep me down because he wants to be the boss or on top. But I admit there are white guys smarter than me too at times, but I never pull any shennanigans instigating or setting me up better than him for a promotion or etc... but white men do this to me!
I am a smart guy but it's mostly the white guys who get the breaks. Maybe these gay guys are white too. At my first professional job my General Manager Boss was secretly gay and he hit on me but I didn't submit to him. Yeah, he was the big boss of an Investment Casting Plant, so yeah, I think he ass kissed his way up there...

Yep, that white on Asian discrimination is really keeping Asians down! Could you possibly try taking some responsibility for your own life?

****head - I do take responsibility for my life and career! But at Synchro Start, they ask me, "Do you want to be an engineer?" I say yes, but they say you don't know Proengineer so they pass me up. But then they didn't pass up a GOOD LOOKING WHITE GUY who didn't know Proengineer and graduated from a worse college than me, - yeah, he gets hired and I see him playing with and learning Proengineer on the job! Yeah, THEY GIVE LOTSA BREAKS TO THE WHITE GUYS!
At Platt Luggage, I had to know Autocad to get hired. Then later they hire a white guy who doesn't know Autocad and he comes from a lesser college and I had to train him on Autocad! And they even PAID HIM MORE THAN ME AS I SECRETLY UNLOCKED THE PAYROLL SPREADSHEET TO SEE PEOPLE'S SALARIES! Then this ass hole starts setting me up and they say they're gonna promote this white guy over me... And then the General Manager of Platt Luggage is a white guy who never finished college... In fact, I've interviewed at several places where managers are white guys with no degrees... yeah, this can only happen because they are WHITE GUYS!
It's a fact jack, there still is lots of racism out there, and you 98% of the time have to be a WHITE GUY to be a CEO! Just look at a Forbes Magazine of CEO's and yeah,... it's a white boy's club! I'm, not stating white racism or racist BS here... I'm stating the facts of my experiences over the years of everywhere where I worked... It's the white guys who get the breaks and promotions.
And these German Engineers sometimes are the most conceited ass hole engineers thinking their "German Engineering" is so superior!

Someone should have told all that to my first boss in Chicago, who was as gay and black as they come.
Jesse: Assuming any of this crap you say is true, you'll do a much better job of finding and keeping work if you stop being such a putz. Don't squirm. Don't deflect. Just stop being a putz.
Seriously.
