... the sure sign of petty backpedaling is to resort to correcting the spelling and grammatical errors of a poster you disagree with on an internet message board.

This conversation, which I thought might actually end on a cordial note, is over.

Not when they refer to their education and claim not to know what a yuppie is! I did not think this was a conversation, however.

Why are you driving 75 miles per day? If you do not drive a vehicle at work, then you really need to think of other options.

Yuppie is way of speech,a way of dressing, attitude, morals, and actions now. It used to be more about how much money you make, what degree you "earned",what job you work at, and what car you drive, etc...

I have seen people that act can be classified as "yuppies" that make 30k a year and are not even "professional or young".

I have to agree with you here. I do not mean to offend anyone else here that I usually agree with though.

I think hipster and yuppie has started to meld a long time ago.
Some people can see it some cannot.

I know that I am going to get a lot of "huhs???" from everyone, but from NYers here, wouldn't you all agree that NY's winters are far less severe than Chicago's? I know NYC gets snow and crappy weather too, but usually from what I remember it would rarely snow out on the island and when it did it would usually melt within a day or two after the storm. And it seemed sunnier there too. So, I don't think you have to live in CA to get less severe winter weather or the seemingly continual cloudiness we get here. It seems anywhere south from Brooklyn down the coast to FL, winters are rather whimpy. Ok so we would get the rare Nor-Easter there, but typically unless you lived far inland, it would usually remain rain or just sleet. Not much in the way of snow unless you were west of Newark and daily temps stayed above 40 usually. And yes we lucked out today, the storm just never grew to what the weather people thought it would.

sorry for going off topic, but IMO, yuppies are the type of people that move into a location w/ the sole purpose of trying to change it. these are the people that move into poor sections of a city to gentrify it so they can make some type of profit off of their investment.

you know a place has been "yuppified" when the corner mom and pop store has been replaced by a 7-11, when the local ethnic bakery has been replaced by a Starbucks, when the local pub has been replaced by a chic restaurant and bar that specializes in some type of Asian fusion dish, when the block is lined w/ chain stores like the Trader Joes and Crate and Barrel and high end luxury stores, when all the inexpensive apartments are replaced w/ marbleized condos. you know a place has been "yuppified" when the original inhabitants, often of a certain ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic background, are displaced and forced to move out due to rising costs and drastic changes.

yuppies come in all shades and backgrounds, but they all tend to move somewhere w/ the sole purpose of changing that place to meet their needs, and while these changes can sometimes be good (ie, lower crime, higher property value, etc), it often means permanently changing the character of that neighborhood and turning it to a carbon copy of all the other "yuppified" places around.

anyways, just my $.02

-ps, back to the original topic, I MUCH prefer the snow over raging wildfires, earthquakes, killer hurricanes, desert heat, non stop rain/fog, or constant, oppressive humidity. Snow rarely kills; the people that can't drive in the stuff is what kills

I am originally from Long Island, and while I definitely agree that the winters there are less severe than Chicago, in the city and most definitely upstate, they are easily comparable and often get much worse storms!

I currently live in AZ, but will be moving to Chicago this summer. If you're looking for the most mild winter of all, come here! It was 110% sunny and 61 degrees today!

There will always be something to complain about with regards to the weather...lots of Arizonans hate their lives from May through October, when it's regularly above 100 and the humidity is in the 90ish percentile.

It just doesn't feel like the holidays when it's in the 60s!

I have been thinking of relocating to Chicago for work and the city is really amazing. If you are not happy with life then warm winter weather will not change anything. I grew up in Rochester NY and was just as happy as living in Houston the last 4 yrs. Bothare also great places

Upstate NY has better winters than Chicago? LOL Thats a new one!

As for Tucson, its winters are pretty mild, but can get snow too. Of course it doesnt stick around long, but if you think AZ has the mildest winters, youre dead wrong. While youre at a warm-ish 60 high and 40 low, Miami is basking in the 80s. Compared to south Florida, AZ's winters are downright freeeeezing cold, especially at night. And from May to October, your humidity levels are usually under 10%, sometimes 0%, NEVER 90% (even with the arrival of the monsoons).

As for the OP, if youre a winter wuss (as most people are), may I suggest you live in Florida or maybe SoCal or AZ. But then be prepared for miserably hot and long summers.
