Can't find much about this building. Does anyone know why the facade of the original Otis building was kept? Was there some law, or incentives for the developer? Also has anyone been inside? Is the building lobby modern or historic?

I always wondered the same thing... how ugly of an idea it was to stick to the original facade with that blue/green steel box in the middle....

It used to be (and the bottom still is) the Otis building by Holabird and Root.

While the building is definitely ugly, the bay windows on it have great views if you're inside the building.

Original building took 2 years to build. It looked better before (what a shame).

I tried to find more information about the building too and found nothing that it was on Chicago's historical register.
Guess it was another structure that the city didn't deam worthy to save (there's many beautiful buildings that have
fallen to the wrecking ball).

I can't find it now, but I read from the AIA that the bottom was kept to maintain the stone facade of the Lasalle St. canyon. There are so many beautiful buildings on Lasalle. One of my favorites is the 190 South Lasalle which is designed to look like the old Masonic Temple which was one the worst architectural losses for the city.
