So hypothetically speaking, if you had unlimited funds to improve one thing in the city (only 1 project), what would it be? What do you think Chicago is missing or is in need of to make it a truly great world city? Improved transit? Schools?

Chicago has plenty of sports/cultural diversions, so nothing there..

Maybe a connector between the Blue Line and the Red Line, or more publicizing of the bus line that connects them; otherwise, you have to go all the way downtown, and then reverse course..

Improved transit. Particularly more streets, highways, or something to accommodate the Indiana commuters and keep them from clogging up the south side

unlimited funds? then a project to shield the city from the cold / snow. it will still let snow in, but only during week before and after christmas. otherwise, it will keep the city in uppers 40s throughout winter.

this thread should be called the Chicago wishlist:

(mostly transit/commute related)
  • heated sidewalks
  • a highway that runs east-west on the northside (and/or)
  • a train line that runs east-west on the northside
  • lane expansion on 90/94??

What is Chicago missing?

Forests, and caves.

As far as a Chicago wishlist.

How about a CTA train parallel to the Red Line, but further west?

To go from the northwest side to the southwest side on the trains you have to go through downtown.

Of course more train lines are ideal, I'd like to see some expansions to the Green Lines and such.

The schools. Poor public school options keep young, middle class families out of the City which depresses real estate values. Middle class families with children bring moderation and stability to a community.

How would you change this though?

Other people in the thread are building billion dollar rail lines and doming the city to shield it from cold, but this is the "missing item" you question?

I would agree that schools are on the list of things to fix, but I would also say that Chicago isn't really "missing" anything. It's not incomplete. It's got its warts and things that could be improved, but so does every city.

Do you think money will "fix" schools?
