(CBS) – "A Loyola University student was shot and killed during an attempted robbery near campus Friday night. Investigators say he tried to grab the attacker’s gun thinking it was fake.

Chicago police say it was just before 8 p.m. Friday when Mutahir Rauf, 23, and his brother were walking in the 1300 block of West Albion in Rogers Park when two masked men approached them, showed a gun and demanded money."

Uptown seems safer to me and Rogers Park less safe these days...

I debated making a thread about this. Murders have gone up from 4 last year in Rogers Park to 8 this year. This one also occurred at Lakewood and Albion, which is quite literally a block from campus and various dorms.

Very unsettling indeed.

Very, very sad. This is why you never attempt to be a hero and grab for the weapon. Wallets, cash and electronics can be replaced while life cannot.

Yes, very tragic indeed. In the couple articles I saw they made no mention of suspect descriptions. I hope they find who did this very soon, but certainly they won't get the kind of punishment they deserve. Probably some damn thug with a record a mile long and past sentences that have been way to lenient. We should not continue to warehouse these violent thugs at such a huge cost to the working man.

This seems to have been forgotten by now. I skimmed several news articles on this and not one article mentions a description of the killer(s).
