They do have calculators for this kind of stuff. I am unsure how accurate it is when compared to DC but I did compare it a bit to New York and found it to be quite accurate.

Chicago is a lot less expensive than DC. DC is the least affordable city in the country now. That said, DC also has the highest median salaries in the country. The main savings will be in housing costs.
