My husband, 2 children and I are moving to Chicago. We are looking to rent in a safe neighborhood with good elementary schools. We are looking for a 3 bedroom for 2000-2500. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Default Budget might be tight...

Three bedroom apartmentss in desirable parts of Chicago served by good local schools are hard to find.

Where is work located? Might it be feasible to live a town that is connected to Chicago by public transit where rents for family sized apartments are more manageable? Have you considerd Skokie?

Work is in the loop. It would absolutely be an option to live in a town connected to Chicago. We would prefer it to be north or northwest of the city. I will check out Skokie... thanks. Do you have any other suggestions?

In the City, some good to great open attendance area (not magnets) schools include, Burley, Bell, Blaine, Audubon, Hamilton, Wildwood, Edgebrook, Agassiz, Waters, Peirce, Chappell, South Loop, Coonley, Nettlehorst, Ravenswood, Lincoln. High School is the trickier part.

Default Price is tricky...

Rent for a three bedroom apartment in a safe area with decent schools is surprisingly hard to find. Skokie has good access to Chicago via the Yellow line. You might also look in Niles or Morton Grove those towns are not as directly linked into transit but still fairly priced. Nicer towns will cost more especially if they have direct Metra service like Evanston, Park Ridge, Oak Park and Arlington Heights. Going further out the towns tend to be either much pricier (Hinsdale, Glen Ellyn, north shore...) or commute much longer ...

Yeah, not sure about rent. Though a 3 BD was recently listed in area at $1500, only one bath. It leased in less than a week, which is typical.
