ISRA-PVF Alert for Cook County:
WARNING
COOK COUNTY HUNTERS, SPORTSMEN, GUN OWNERS
The most sweeping gun control laws in the nation will soon be
voted on
by the Cook County Board. Here is what they will do:
a.. CLOSE ALL COOK COUNTY GUN SHOPS - Under the ordinance, no
gun
shop could operate within 1 mile of a school, church, nursing home, or
park, and no two shops could be within 15 miles of each other. BOTTOM
LINE: All gun shops in Cook County would be ordered to close just after
New Years Day.
b.. BAN MOST GUN OWNERSHIP - Under the ordinance, all Cook
County
residents would have to register their guns with the Cook County
Sheriff . Now read this very carefully: You could only register guns
that are currently registered. If you live in unincorporated Cook
County, or in towns that do not currently require registration, then
you could not register any guns under the new law and you'd have to
surrender your guns to the Sheriff. BOTTOM LINE: Only residents of
Chicago and a handful of suburbs would be allowed to keep any guns. The
majority of Cook County residents would be forced to surrender their
guns to the Sheriff.
c.. IMMEDIATE BAN ON HANDGUNS - Under the ordinance, the only
handguns that would be allowed in Cook County would be firearms with a
"load indicator." Therefore, all revolvers would be banned as would
most semiautomatic pistols. Also, other language in the ordinance would
ban semiautomatic shotguns and rifles.
d.. NULLIFY LOCAL GUN ORDINANCES - Under the ordinance, home
rule
authority over firearms would be eliminated with the County Board being
in full control of fi rearm regulations.
BOTTOM LINE: You cannot hide from this ordinance no matter
where you
live in Cook County.
WHO IS BEHIND THIS GUN GRAB?
Larry Suffredin, Cook County Commissioner, 13th District, is
behind
these Commissioner foolish ordinances. To put it very bluntly -
Suffredin hates people who own guns. He has made gun control his life's
work. He is on the board of the Illinois chapter of Handgun Control and
is an antigun lobbyist in Springfield. Suffredin does not believe that
anyone should be able to own a gun. Suffredin does not believe that
hunting is a valid reason to own a gun - any gun. If you're a target
shooter, Suffredin wants to force you to take up a new hobby. Suffredin
does not believe that you have the right to defend your home or family
with a gun - he thinks you should call the police and roll the dice to
see whether they get there in time. As far as Larry Suffredin is
concerned, if you or your family are raped, robbed or murdered, that's
just your tough luck. Larry Suffredin is an enemy of every principle
upon which our great nation was founded.
IF YOU THINK LARRY SUFFREDIN IS TOO BAD TO BE TRUE
GUESS AGAIN - HE WANTS TO BE YOUR STATE'S ATTORNEY
As far as Larry Suffredin is concerned, the only difference
between
you and a drug-dealing gang-banger is that you haven't been arrested -
yet. Suffredin is running for State's Attorney for Cook County. His
biggest campaign promise is to use "creative" ways to "get guns off the
streets." You can bet that, if elected, he'll use the power of his
office to harass every gun owner he can get his hands on. He'll send
cops to your door, hound you at work, and bring lawsuits against every
gun dealer in Illinois. Larry Suffredin will not rest until every gun
in America is melted down in the furnace of tyranny.
There are 3 ways you can help save your guns: 1) Call Larry
Suffredin
at (312 )603-6383 and tell him that you are a law-abiding gun owner and
you object to his trampling your constitutional rights. 2) Call your
Cook County Commissioner at (312) 603-5500 and tell him or her to vote
against all county gun control schemes. 3) Vote AGAINST Larry Suffredin
in the State's Attorney primary February 5, 2008.

So what. I've lived in cook county my whole like and I don't have a problem with Chicago's gun laws. Never have. Did you ever consider that these laws were voted on by people who were elected? I'd venture to say that the majority of people support these laws (otherwise they'd move or stop voting for people who enact strict gun laws), that is why they (we) voted for these <strike>morons</strike> politicians to begin with. If there is one thing I support strongly, it is the right of a local populace to govern itself (within reason ... granted I know what is considered reasonable is subjective), and if we define governing ourselves as having stricter gun laws then you'd like, then you don't have to be part of our local populace.
Not to mention, in reading the ordinance, it doesn't even make much sense (b doesn't make sense, and c seems to contradict b) ... and handguns have been banned in Chicago for years, and we just ended the year with our lowest number of homicides since the 1960's (I realize many argue there is no correlation between the too, but one certainly can't argue the ban correlates to an increase of homicide either, as we've not had an increase of homicide).

You mean the idiots who were elected who sway heavily from their campaign promises and try to invoke higher and more invasive tax measures that their constituents (when informed) call in to continuously deny???
Those politicians??
Blind allegiance and faith is not the answer. Sorry.

You don't have a clue.
The majority of people in Chicago for starters are ILL informed of these
events, and #2, WHEN informed, these bills are attempted ANNUALLY and
are denied continuously. Daley didn't get the vote of the people to ban
guns in Chicago, he just did it. Get your facts straight. Todd Stroger, was
NOT voted into office, his father was, and now he's been given his position
by Mayor Daley. Is that how the voting process works??? I think not.

Using your logic explain why the gun bans of England and Australia backfired
Again, get your facts straight.
#1. Homicides, DOES NOT outline strictly hand gun crimes.
#2. Hand gun violence is by gangs who don't pay attention to gun laws.
#3. Look up the statistics related to guns and violence ESPECIALLY pay attention to how
many crimes are committed with Assault weapons.....the number is like .01%....so why the big push to ban them??
IGNORANCE and politicians trying to justify their positions in office. Of course there's alot of backers,
but an unarmed society is an unsafe society. Guns are in the hands of criminals. Think about it retard
who looks up the gun laws before breaking into your home to rob you or kill you??? Duh.....
You think 911 response is fast enough, that's your own stupidity.
A special was done on ABC news a few years ago, educate yourself.
The local populace is not governing itself UNLESS it's informed of what it's
officials in office CONTINUE to attempt to put into law. A similar bill was
passing the IL voting floor during Hurricane Katrina. It ALMOST passed ....
Want to know why it failed??? A similar notification email was sent out like this one, and a helpful fact was that when Louisiana took all it's residents guns in New Orleans ,MORE people turned up dead. It was a HUGE media fiasco that backfired and the mayor came forth and apologized after the NRA fought them in court for violating their residents right to defend themselves.
Another fact you need to get through your thick head is Indiana is right next door. Gun Bans do jack ****
when you can cross the border and get an unregistered weapon quite easily. Now go do your homework.
Next time if you disagree with something don't tell someone to move because they disagree with your views.
You want them to respect your opinion, you should do the same.

Reason: No need to call people names in a debate

Just to help you on facts- Mayor Daley was not the mayor in 1982 when the "registration" and possession of "new" handguns were made illegal in Chicago. It was Mayor Byrne.
However, he was the Cook County States Attorney at that time.

I didn't state he was the Mayor in 1982.
But I can see how my statements were left open to perception.
It doesn't deter the fact of the matter though.
But it is not just D.C. that has experienced increases in murder and violent crime after guns are banned. Chicago also experienced an increase after its ban in 1982. Island nations supposedly present ideal environments for gun control because it is relatively easy for them to control their borders, but countries such as Great Britain, Ireland, and Jamaica have experienced large increases in murder and violent crime after gun bans. For example, after handguns were banned in 1997, the number of deaths and injuries from gun crime in England and Wales increased Ministers 'covered up' gun crime - Times Online 340 percent in the seven years from 1998 to 2005.
Quote:
Passing a gun ban simply doesn't mean that we are going to get guns away from criminals. The real problem is that if it is the law-abiding good citizens who obey these laws and not the criminals, criminals have less to fear and crime can go up.
Regardless, the City of DC and Chicago have infringed upon our 2nd Amendment rights and the case
is being heard before the Supreme Court presently for this very reason as we speak. We WILL be getting
our rights back. Chicago politicians can blow you know what ......they're leaving homeowners defenseless
just so they can feel good about THINKING banning guns do something better for the community when in fact
it only does good for criminals.
The people who think they're safe because they can call 911 haven't experienced a life threatening instance
nor do they have the capacity to understand how easily it can happen.
Why is it that people who are very pro-gun rights are absolutely convinced anyone who doesn't own one is as defenseless as a lamb lead to slaughter, the simple act of owning a gun does not make ones home or body a fortress anymore than not owning one makes ones home or body a blinking defenseless target. I've always wondered about that attitude. Perhaps because my family doesn't come from any traditional of gun ownership, but have never felt particularly defenseless and vulnerable (and my grandfather grew up in rough section of nyc, and my dad spent a good part of his life working on Chicago's south side), so I'm perplexed by this notion
While one can debate the issues of causation and correlation until the cows come home, I do find it interesting that Chicago has just had its lowest number of homicides since the 1960's.
... oh and CrepingDeth, as a lifelong resident of cook county in my mid-thirties, I'm well aware of how politics work around here, and am not pleased with them (specifically the Stroger debacle), that does not invalidate whatsoever that most of the politicians who are elected, regardless of how you feel about them, have gun control as a huge part of their platform, and do not hide this (based on the campaign commercials I've been bombarded with), if that was so odious to the majority of their constituents, I doubt they'd get anywhere... and finally, I didn't suggest that you pick up and move, I did suggest though that you have two options if you find cook counties gun laws so odious, either change the opinions of the majority of the people in cook county to mirror yours so that gun-right advocates would no longer get elected, or move.
... and those repeated calls to 'educate yourself' are insulting (and certainly not a good way to get this citizen of cook county to come over to your 'side'), there are many well educated and informed people on both sides of this debate. Assuming that just because one does not agree with your position on the gun debate that one is an uneducated cretin is ridiculous, stop it.
Finally, lets get this straight, most gun control advocates are not calling for a ban on all guns, but just restrictions on who gets to have them, and how long they have to wait to get them, and perhaps a ban on certain types of guns. I have no interest whatsoever in banning hunting/game guns, I don't want to take the guns of hunters away, nor do even the most staunch gun control advocates, I do, however, find concealed and carry unsettling (and if ever enacted, would refuse to let anyone into my home who carried, the days of the wild west are over, I'd like to think in a civilized society we do not need all walk around armed to the teeth) and am absolutely in favor of strict restrictions on the owning of handguns and other weapons created for the sole purpose of killing other people.
The reason for the drop in murders is possibly correlated to the ban of guns, but I would better bet it is because;
a. The city is being cleaned up and the bad apples are being pushed out to places like Harvey, Dixmoor, Phoenix, Robbins, by the city tearing down their homes to put up million dollar condos. Its not to often I hear of a rich businessman doing a drive by in his B-Mer
b. Police in Chicago have really cracked down on gangs and gang like activity.
c. Chicago cops have proven to be no nonsense being proven many times lately with video tapes of them beating the crap out of someone.
d. More cameras are everywhere now taping everything so its makes a person really think about pulling that trigger knowing his face is going to be plastered all over the 5 o clock news.
