Wow, so many views, points etc. I came across this thread while googling Uptown Chicago images. Seems like this is slightly more about gentrification than Uptown though. Either way, Im one of those who grew up in the city, went to public schools etc. I think its more the speed and sheer number of demolitions/ condo building constructions in poor/ working class neighborhoods that has people freaking out so much. I dont hate anyone, however I think its the greedy developers who dont care about the existing residents of areas, and also mislead the newcomers who dont know any better about the area of Albany or Humboldt park they just bought a condo in..
If any of you are interested, one of my passions is photographing endangered & unique Chicago building before they get demolished in the name of condos/ starbucks. I made sure to get shots of all the Montrose Broadway stuff before it came down..
