Hi,
I am in North Carolina and moving to Chicago in Feb, and am having to find an apartment sight unseen. I am seriously considering an apartment located at 222 East Pearson/Pearson on the Park . Any opinions on this property will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looked at the bldg in the spring and got a bad vibe.....just one of those things. Maybe it's improved by now.

SBurgess: Thanks for your reply. Could you tell me a little bit more about what turned you off? Did you find another apartment in the area you did like? Thanks!

Default 222 E Pearson

I've lived in this neighborhood (Gold coast) for many years, and am very familiar with Streeterville, downtown, etc. I've both owned and rented. This is the white building, right? It was going condo from all rental, as I recall. There was lots of construction dust around, but the main problem was I thought the doorman was creepy and there were people wandering around the halls (not just workmen) and I got a bad feeling about that. However, I'm a mother, so maybe that was the instinct kicking in. It seemed the buidling was in transition and not a good place to settle in. I didn't think the people I saw looked like people you'd see in this neighborhood, just didn't feel safe. There were too many vacant units, also. We just walked by there the other day and commented, "maybe it's gotten better." Maybe it has. Look on the Chicago Tribune website for rentals, call a realtor at Sudler in the Hancock Building, there's rent.com (is that it?) I think...or go to Craig's List and check on apartments there. If you give me an approximate price range, I maybe can help direct you.

I don't know what building you are referring to, but that address in a safe neighborhood.

I agree the neighborhood is safe, but there was something "off" with the building at the time when we visited. I would definitely not move to any building, anyway, on a lease signing basis, without looking at it in person first unless it were absoluteyl necessary.....or very temporary. At the price range, I think one could do better.
