I will be flying from O'Hare to JFK on Memorial Day weekend (22nd to 25th). I will be meeting my family at the JFK airport (they are flying in from Charlotte). Their flight arrives at JFK at 3:19 PM on that Friday. Basically, I have the choice of either departing at 9:46 AM and arriving there at 1 PM or departing at 12:30 PM and arriving there at 4 PM. While the latter option would be more ideal, I'm worried that there's a higher chance of my flight being delayed. How likely will it be that the flight is delayed at either the 9:46 AM flight vs. the 12:30 PM flight? I'm starting to think it might be smarter to leave at 9:46 AM and anticipate at least a 30 minute - 1 hour delay, which would mean I would arrive at JFK about 1 1/2 hours before my family would arrive (assuming their flight won't be delayed). If the 4 PM flight would likely be delayed more than 30 minutes than I most likely won't choose that one.

You can look up histories of flights being on-time/delayed either here:

or on FlightAware.

If the weather is good in both cities there is less chance of delays. Otherwise I would opt for the earlier flight in case there are miss connects.
