Hello, I am moving to Chicago from Arizona and would like your opinion on where I should be looking to live.

Background:
My boyfriend and I are moving to Chicago together. We are fresh out of college looking for a place to live where we can meet people our age. We are looking for a 1-2 bedroom house/apt for rent. Everyone we've talked to so far recommends that we live in the city now since we are young and don't have children. However, my work is in Rolling Meadows near the 53 and i-90 intersection.

Questions:
Would it be so terrible to reverse commute to Rolling Meadows from the city?

Is it possible to take the train? My work is not within walking distance of a train station but I have heard of people using the Call-n-Ride service to get from the train station to work. Anyone hear of this option before?

What times are the worst for the reverse commute traffic?

What are the city boundaries of downtown?

What neighborhoods are good to live in that are on the North side of downtown?

If you can answer any of these questions it would be a huge help for us! Thank you

Before we begin, what is your max monthly rental budget? That will determine some things if you truly want to live in the city even with a long reverse commute.

It's probably not too bad from the far northwest side. Jefferson Park isn't the most happening neighborhood but its not too far from more popular neighborhoods. Blue Line service is 24 hours a day.

Thank you for your responses.
I wouldn't want to pay more than $1,500/month and considering that's my max it would have to be pretty decent. Modern kitchen and in-unit W/D are my most desired features.
