You could try to break it out by region -- North Shore, Near West, South and North, Southwest Suburbs, Will County, Kane County, etc. But yea, that would get pretty confusing, and there's no universal agreement over what should be called what. On Metromix.com, for example, Berwyn and Forest Park are called "West" while Oak Park and Elmwood Park are called "Near West." Go figure.

One thing I am totally for, and would certainly make it a sticky if it works this time, would be for people to describe their neighborhood or their suburb. Stuff like who lives there, answering the usual questions about it, why it's good, why it's bad, etc. I've seen it on a few other boards and it can be useful. I tried to get some interest in it last year but it didn't work--if there's enough interest let me know and I'll try it again
