The protestors in Baltimore are now looting stores, lighting cars on fire, and injuring officers. It seems like Chicago has the ingredients for the worst racial riots in the country or world. We have officers with a brutal reputation, a lot of blacks living close together, and plenty of stores to loot. We already have enough issues during the summer. It just seems like the perfect city for these animals to be set loose in.

Oh, right. Animals don't set cop cars on fire or loot stores. Sorry.

Animals meaning people ( in this case looters ) behaving like wild animals. Is that such a bad thing to say.

If it was going to happen in Chicago, it would have happened already. The CPD shoots about a couple dozen people dead every year, without much of a backlash.

There are two main reasons why Chicago doesn't see major uprising after police shootings:

#1 - Basic competence on the part of the CPD. Unlike in Ferguson, the CPD knows that you don't leave a body on the street for hours. It attracts crowds that can get out of hand. They also allow protests to occur and don't bring in SWAT teams for people blocking traffic. I'm not saying that the CPD doesn't shoot people needlessly, but they know how to handle the responses to shootings and not give protestors a target to attack. They do a solid job of handling large protests.

#2 - There are solid community based organizations and leaders that keep protests under control. No matter what you think of people like Jesse Jackson and Father Pfleger, they don't want to see violence and work hard to keep protests under control. They've worked to organize protests against CPD shootings in the past, and also worked with the CPD to keep everything peaceful. That relationship doesn't seem to exist in some other cities.

How about this 1...

I don't know how it is for other cities, but for the Chicago Tribune and SunTimes, they never give out the race of the cop in a shooting, so there's no ability for the Black community to riot whenever a Black person is killed by cops.

How did it get out the race of George Zimmerman or Officer Darren Wilson, must be different laws in different municipalities.

This city has all the ingredients for the kind of calamity we see in Baltimore. The stark segregation and isolation that separates people in the two Chicago's only fuels mistrust and contempt. Barring some kind of
egregious act of police abuse that makes huge headlines, I think we can probably avoid this fate though.

Unlike the '60s, this time it seems to be less about black vs. white and more about black vs. police.
