This is my first post...not at all familiar with Chicago so please bear with me.
My 20 something daughter is moving to Chicago and found an apartment she really likes on N. Central Park Ave. a few blocks south of Fullerton. She has heard mixed reviews about the area in terms of safety so is hesitant to sign a lease. Any thoughts about the safety of that area for a single young woman?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

It's a mix of Hispanic and White neighborhood.

The gangs there are called IGs (Imperial Gangsters). Their colors are black and pink. They are a very racially diverse gang, having all 3 races.

I believe there's a big, upscale Mexican grocery store around there.

I agree. But it's the more affordable part of the neighborhood. Unless you use the Metra MD-N line for work or want to be able to say you live in Logan Square, there's not much going for the SW portion of the neighborhood. Anything you'd want to do is a 8-12 block walk away.

Thanks for your feedback. She decided to pass on the apartment and will keep looking for something closer to a blue line stop ( she'll be starting grad school at UIC).

My son lived there for a number of years. He had no trouble but had a car and a garage so he was not dependent on public transportation. Its not a really nice area of Logan square but the rents are cheap. It has little access to the L lines. He was near the pokey Fullerton bus. There were a lot of rats in the neighborhood, including rats in his back yard.
