I got a flyer from the CTA saying that my street will be closed off from Thursday evening to Monday morning next week in order to work on the brown line construction. They don't give any information about where to park my car instead during these times. There are no other areas I can park in for my neighborhood permit # (the whole block will be closed off). So where should I park my car for those 4 days? Would it be OK to park in a neighborhood further out from the city (where they don't require the neighborhood permit #'s but only a Chicago city sticker) for a few days? Would I still get a parking ticket for doing that? If not, then where are the cheapest parking garages? It looks like it would cost $14 a day to park at O'Hare but wondering if I can find a better deal somewhere else?

Find a street, anywhere, without permit parking. Then hope they don't put street cleaning signs up.

There must be free streets closer than the airport?

I live in Rogers Park... no permit. But we have street cleaning on Monday.

You can park in any non-permit zone for up to 7 days without risking a ticket. Even after that it would probably be several weeks before anyone noticed, phoned it in as abandoned, Streets and San got around to putting a notice on it, and then finally towing it off.

My advice though is to try to find a spot where there doesn't appear to be a lot of competition for spaces, because sometimes people can get testy seeing an "unfamiliar" car not moving for a while where parking is tight.

As for the street cleaning issue, the city does put the schedule up for each ward. It's not easy to find or decipher, but it's out there.

I ended up parking my car in a side street in West Ravenswood. I have to use it tomorrow anyway so I'll just park on a different side street next time I park. Love how the CTA doesn't tell you anything about alternative parking after kicking you out of your block. Typical of them.

It's not their job to make alternate parking arrangements. Grown adults old enough to own and drive a car should be able to figure it out for themselves.

I can't rep you for this because I need to spread it around more, but this. Figuring out where to park a car comes with the ownership.

I always used to park on Ashland Ave but my side mirror has been taken off twice so I pay 25 bucks a year to park on a side street instead.
