You need to bone up on your history. Slavery was around long before the United States was born. Do you know who owned slaves in Africa and who caught the people that were sold to the Europeans to be sold into slavery in other countries? Other black Africans, that's who.

Race relations will continue to be strained because some people refuse to let go of the past and are constantly going to blame their present problems on something that occurred a long time ago.

There's a certain segment of the black population who isn't going to blame race for their success or failure. Not surprisingly, this is also the segment of the population who is educated and professionally/financially successful. Correlation?

I love it when people make comments about the "black population" when they don't have one person that they regularly associate with from the "black population".

Discrimination does exists and will continue to exist long after our lifetimes.

Why are you all still commenting on this thread?

I comment because ignoring the issue and stifling views you don't agree with, doesn't make the problem go away. We need to discuss it. Believe it or not, some people are not aware of their ignorance and CAN be helped. Others? Well, they'll continue to be angry when the mirror of privilege is held up to their faces.

It is usually the case for those who don't have to experience it. Racism doesn't exist to them because it doesn't exist FOR them. And when you are a part of the privileged minority, it's hard to feel empathy because you don't have the same issues.

Normally I would share my stories of discrimination and racism in Chicago. But I don't see the the need in a forum like this. People don't understand why nor are they concerned about the racial climate in Chicago. So why bother discussing it? It's a waste of time.

It's not a Chicago thing anymore. I've been called a n***er there, as well as in Georgia. I used to get pulled over all the time in Georgia and I get pulled over by the cops all the time since I moved to Texas. America is a racist place and it seems it has reverted since Obama has been in office.

Yeh, you're right....you know how many black colleagues I have. How many black people were at my wedding, how many black people I'm friends with.

By the way, if you don't like a thread, nobody is forcing you to read it.

More accurately, we don't want to deal with it on your preferred terms.

I didn't say racism doesn't exist. It does, but unless you're talking about the KKK or similar hate groups, it's not as prevalent as race baiters want to make it.
But for some people, race is at the heart of how they view EVERYTHING in life. Instead of looking at the facts, they look at the color and assume that's the reason for an outcome.
