Thanks for the post. These are the buildings that give the city character. I understand that new development is necessary for continued economic progress, but we've got to keep an eye on these buildings if we want to prevent our city from becoming all glass and steel and no heart.
I especially like the Daily News building. It's matched, stylistically, with the Lyric Opera building to frame the river in very cool art-deco skyscrapers. I used to work in the Lyric Opera building, and would often eat lunch on warm days in the plaza between the Daily News Building and the river. Those lunches really were a nice diversion on days that could be sorta crappy chained-to-the-desk suckholes otherwise.
I'd be really sorry if that building were lost. That's far enough west that you're not devoid of building space. Just a few blocks south is the massive vacant old post office. Now, I wouldn't want to see that go, either, but my point is that the area isn't quite as strapped for real estate footprints as areas to the east.
