you should file the report
I will say what others know to be true buit are afraid to. With you being Italian the police will take your complaint more seriously than if you were black or even hispanic.
If you don't believe feel free to talk with the cops in my neighborhood who refer to blacks as m#les. I hadn't heard this expression ever (and I grew up in southern rural Indiana).

I agree. Document everything this **** does or says to you so that you have a solid case if you ever neeed to present anything in fron of a building board or court of law. I am sorry you have to deal with an ignorant dumbass like that.

That is because it is slang (a shortening of the word) in Italian for an Eggplant.

deslok, forget the "minorities" TELL YOUR LANDLORD/MANAGER in a letter AND orally AND email AND more than once. tell him every single little thing.
Do not be afraid of him, or anyone, because if anything at all happens to you or your property, after this, HE will be the prime suspect, whenever anything happens to someone, everyone asks if anyone comes to mind, and thats him, so he cannot do anyhting without getting in worse trouble.
.....or you can also resort to solving things on your own, but that would be illegal............

I agree that you need to tell the landlords, keep documention of what he said (as well as the letters that you send to the landlords). If the person verbally threatens you, then you have the right to call the police. If it is "just" racist slurs (I'm not saying this is right in ANY way), then there really isn't anything the police or attorney's will do for you. I don't really understand John Doe's last statement.......
Point being, it really sucks that this is happening and just make sure to document what is going on and keep yourself safe. If you feel threatened, do call the police. I also agree that you need to inform others in your building, not just minorities. You can also call Metropolitan Tenants Organization - Chicago, Illinois to see if they can help with anything if this continues.

I meant he seems afraid of what the guy will do if he finds out he was reported. And he shouldnt be afraid cause the guy will not and cannot do anyhting. if he does anything, or if anyhting happens, the racist will be the prime suspect right away. This is america, sue him for anything, theres a lot of volunteer lawyer organizations, and a lot of civil rights lawyers and organization. just google it.
So theres nothing to be afraid of, if he does anything, its even better, this guy could face serious jail time if he does anything, or possibly even for what he did. He assaulted you, it sounds like he did. assault=threatened you while he was close enough to hurt you=you were truly worried he might hurt you at the moment and he could have= you can sue and get money from him, and he can be arrested if you tell cops.

john doe
John Doe,
If this guy wants to take further action, let him.
Racist slurs will certainly help get the attention of the cops but the threats are what will get him arrested if you choose to pursue this.
You will never get any kind of punitive judgment you can actually collect from people like this. I know from experience as a number of my former renters owe me 1000s of dollars that I will never see.
Of course, you should just move somewhere nicer where you don't have to deal with creeps like this. It may seem like losing but ultimately it will be better for you. Some battles just aren't worth fighting.
