Hello,

I am driving from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to near Midway airport in Chicago. I will start driving from Detroit Metropolitan Airport around 10pm and want to stop for the night someone near Midway airport.

By doing so, I can get into Midway in the morning (I have to pick up friends from there) instead of driving all the way from Detroit to Chicago in the morning.

Do you know any town 1-2 hours near Midway (coming in on I-94) from Detroit, where I can stay the night at a Quality Inn/Comfort Inn/Hampton Inn type accommodation and be safe?

Thank you,
Mengembara

I don't have the answer to your specific question (asking for a "town 1-2 hours near Midway"), but there are many "name brand" motels right down the street from Midway. You can start your search here:
Midway Hotel Center - Hotels near Midway Airport in Chicago, IL

This cluster of motels is on busy street and very urban, but I think it's safe enough. (I am not so sure about quiet....)

There is a "Days Inn" in Alsip off on 127th St southwest of I-294 that I frequently drive past that is among the less costly options in the the area.

There is a "Motel 6" just south of the I-294 exit onto 95th St near 76th Ave that advertises $49 rooms.
I have seen a "Super 8" in Bridgeview near 79th & Roberts Rd. that is also quite affordable.

The spots closer to Midway itself are often as expensive as staying in the Loop -- the folks that run those place kind of take advantage of clueless travelers and the reimbursement polices of the airlines...

Thank you for your replies. I want to stop somewhere half way or 2/3 of the way between Detroit Airport and Midway airport.

Is there anywhere scenic that I can stop overnight and then enjoy the area (e.g. a lake, orchards, etc.) for a few hours in the morning, before heading to Chicago?

Michigan City? Kalamazoo?

Thank you,
Mengembara

There are some hotels right off 94 at New Buffalo which is a really nice spot.

Thank you friends. I drove straight through, but would not do it again at that late hour.

It can be an annoying drive unfortunately. If I had seen your post in time, I would've also suggested New Buffalo since it is quiet, scenic, on the lakeshore & just outside of the congestion of NW Indiana & Chicagoland. In the summer it is sort of a mini-Hamptons for Chicagoans. This time of year the lodging is much cheaper there than it is in the peak summer season. My 2nd best suggestion would probably be the St. Joseph, MI area.
